With every cut, a story

My name is Dani Mateos, and since 1992 I’ve had the privilege of dedicating my life to one of my greatest passions: hairdressing. I was born and raised in San Fernando (Cádiz), and here I’ve seen how my craft has become, over the years, a way of understanding life, a way to connect with people, and a way to care for much more than just hair. I’ve always been fascinated by the atmosphere of old-fashioned barbershops—that scent of classic cologne, the neighborhood chatter, and the skill of those who mastered the art of the haircut. Perhaps that’s why, at my salon, Córtate, I’ve wanted to pay tribute to that legacy.

The walls of my hair salon hold a little piece of history: old tools, objects with character, and mementos that tell the story of how this craft—which I love so much—has evolved. Every piece has its own story, just like every client who sits in my chair. The salon is filled with furniture that’s been restored, salvaged, and brought back to life with the same care I put into every job. I like to think that, in my hair salon, time stands still for a little while: between conversations, as the scissors clipp-clop, a special atmosphere of trust and closeness is created.

After more than thirty years in this profession, I still feel the same excitement as I did on my first day. Every haircut, every style, every smile when a client looks in the mirror reminds me why I chose this path. Córtate isn’t just my business—it’s my home, my museum, and the reflection of a lifetime dedicated to the art of making people feel good.
